Three splices, in order
The bench teaches these to every apprentice in week one. They are the whole grammar of rope work.
Bench wisdom: a splice is laid, not tied. If you find yourself knotting, stop, undo, and start again. A knot halves a rope; a splice barely touches it.
The yard runs a splicing morning on the first Saturday of the month, £12 with materials. Book at the office. This guide is a fictional demonstration.
